If you have never been to Rocky Mountain National Park, you’re in for an extraordinary experience. This national park hasn't changed much over the years. With its rolling tundra, stoic mountain peaks, glacier-carved valleys and abundant wildlife, But with the park's staggering 416 square miles, it can seem a little daunting to know where to start.

The Lay of the Land

Rocky Mountain National Park has two distinct halves,

Moraine Park, Bear Lake, Wild Basin and Sprague Lake, and as a result, it is the more heavily trafficked side of the park.

The western slope of the park features Colorado's largest natural lake (Grand Lake)这是一个广阔的山谷,有大量的驼鹿和麋鹿(Kawuneeche valley),是尼罗河的源头 Colorado River, and more than a dozen backcountry valleys perfect for horseback riding and hiking excursions.

Know Before You Go

Public lands are the heart and soul of Colorado,

Care for Colorado Leave No Trace Principles

Follow the “rule of thumb”.
If you're camping, choose a designated campsite.
Ensure campfires are permitted in your area.
Always pack out your trash, including peels and cores. No restroom? 准备好一个一次性的WAG包,或者把你的生意埋在8英寸深的地方, at least 70 steps from all water sources and trails.
Even minor damage can have a lasting impact.
Respect fellow adventurers in Grand County.
Explore lesser-traveled sites to avoid the crowds.

Where to Stay

The park's two main gateway towns — Grand Lake

Shadow Mountain LakeLake Granby, the Indian Peaks Wilderness, Winter Park, Fraser and Hot Sulphur Springs. Nearby, Granby and Kremmling also offer a variety of authentic Colorado lodging options, and they are only a short drive from the park.

If you are looking to camp, the park offers five campgrounds 位于公园西侧的Timber Creek露营地位于Kawuneeche山谷的中心, and its spacious 98 camp sites are peaceful and scenic.

When to Visit

夏季(通常是阵亡将士纪念日到劳动节)是游客的旺季,这是有充分理由的——步道没有雪, the park's wildlife is active, and the wildflowers are in full bloom.

But ask a local or frequent visitor to the park, 虽然你可能会在这个季节看到一场早期的暴风雪, 你更有可能看到白杨树和苔原草变成鲜艳的金色和红色, and you are also likely to hear elk bugling during their annual rut season. In winter, 步道岭路(连接公园的东西两部分)因降雪而关闭, and the park sees little visitation. But for outdoor enthusiasts looking to cross-country ski or snowshoe, 公园的山谷和小径是一个壮丽的冬季仙境,在那里你可以看到新鲜的动物足迹, frozen waterfalls and snow-covered peaks.
